Area

The metric area shown in hectares for each LGA was, in general, calculated by conversion of previously published Imperial data, and incorporates an amendment for any changes in boundary since the last Census. As a result, there may be some minor discrepancies in comparison with metric areas published elsewhere. Such discrepancies are not considered significant for practical purposes. For Census purposes the suburbs of the City of Brisbane, the City of Darwin and of Canberra have been treated as LGA's. The area of the suburbs of the City of Brisbane was supplied by the appropriate authorities in Queensland. The area of the suburbs in the City of Darwin and in Canberra was calculated using a digitising process and may therefore differ from area figures prepared by planimeter or survey.
