Census LGA Code

This is a 3 digit numeric code assigned to LGA's alphabetically within State. The code begins at 001 for each State with the last code being attributed to migratory CD's.

For Census purposes, LGA's include administrative areas such as Shires, District Councils, Boroughs, Cities, Municipalities and Towns.

As well, physical areas such as suburbs in Brisbane, Darwin and Canberra, Districts in the Northern Territory, and Unincorporated areas occurring in some of the States are regarded as LGA's for Census purposes and assigned Census LGA codes.

The code ranges for 1976 LGA's are as follows:

New South Wales	001 - 219
Victoria	001 - 216
Queensland	001 - 289
South Australia	001 - 137
Western Australia	001 - 142
Tasmania	001 - 052
Northern Territory	001 - 042
Australian Capital Territory	001 - 093
